YouTube’s Premium Lite subscription is not “premium” – premium.
YouTube is likely to launch the “YouTube’s Premium Lite subscription” subscription type for ad-free YouTube soon.
Reddit users of Sweden and Finland spotted YT premium lite. YouTube stated to The Verge and confirmed this cheaper subscription tier. Google-owned video-sharing platform is testing this new Premium Lite subscription in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
YouTube’s existing premium plan has cost 11.99 Euros. While speaking to The Verge, YouTube spokesperson said: “In Nordics and Benelux (except for Iceland), we’re testing a new offering to give users even more choice: Premium Lite costs €6.99/month (or local equivalent per month) and it includes ad-free videos on YouTube.”
YouTube’s Premium Lite subscription plans include:
- YouTube app (web, Android, iOS, TV, gaming consoles)
- YouTube kids
- No adds
- YouTube music
- All features of premium-like background playback, and offline download
New cheaper subscription tier is good for those who have to get rid of YouTube ads but also don’t want to pay charges of premium. But, the features Lite offering are not justifying its price tag (around 60% of premium). YouTube said this is the testing phase and they will add more features and launch more plans in the Lite plan according to the feedback of users.
Yesterday, Youtube become the first formal app to cross the milestone of 10 billion downloads on the Google play store. Can we consider that YouTube launches a cheaper plan due to the joy of milestone?
